For over a century, the Voss family's roots have entwined with the land of Oropi, cultivating a legacy that has grown strong and deep. It began in 1921, when Jack Hamilton set the cornerstone of our history by purchasing a sprawling 516-acre property on Oropi Road. The land, a canvas of lush greenery, echoed with the promise of growth. As our family tendered the fields for dairy farming, we became part of the rhythm of the land, laying the groundwork for a heritage of care and cultivation.
In the vibrant heart of New Zealand, amidst verdant pastures, our story took a new turn in 1977. The dairy farming grounds saw the birth of a new passion - "Manaia Orchard," our maiden voyage into the world of kiwifruit cultivation. Oropi Management Services LTD (OMS LTD) was born from this land, infused with our family's long-standing dedication to farming. It was here that our journey in the kiwifruit industry began, sprouting from the rich soil our family had nurtured for generations.
The seeds of our growth continued to blossom. In 1983, we planted a new branch in our growing enterprise with the establishment of "Waimapu Packhouse". This initiative broadened our scope, extending our services to provide post-harvest solutions to kiwifruit growers across the Bay of Plenty region.
Our growth story further unfolded in 1984 when we launched "Waimapu Management LTD." This subsidiary, functioning under the "Waimapu Packhouse," was an additional bud in our blossoming kiwifruit journey, focusing on the unique needs of orchard management.
A significant milestone emerged in our timeline in 2007 when "Waimapu Management Services" transformed into an independent entity, now recognised as “Oropi Management Services Ltd”. Our name changed, but our values stood strong. We carried forward the commitment, care, and kinship from our dairy farming days into our new identity, continuing our ethos as a family-owned company.
The "Manaia Orchards Trust," once shared with the "McGillivray's," has evolved into a proudly wholly family-owned entity, entrusted to Doug Voss & Paola Galimberti. Today, Oropi Management Services is piloted by the father-son duo of Doug & Richard Voss, who blend familial warmth with professional acumen to navigate our operations.
Our history is a rich tapestry of hard work, commitment, and love for the land. It tells the story of a family's evolution from dairy farmers to pivotal players in the kiwifruit industry. We're proud of the legacy we've built and are excited about the growth we'll continue to foster. As we reflect on the past and look to the future, we remember our roots, honour our journey, and invite you to join us in our ongoing story.
